COURSE DESCRIPTION
Module 2 of the Traditional Medicine Clinical Practice Certification (TMCPC) Program will develop the competencies in ETHICS AND PRACTICE MANAGEMENT. It covers coding basics, including ICD-10, Modifiers, Diagnosis Pointer, and CPT coding guidelines, most commonly used in acupuncture practice. CASE MANAGEMENT competencies relevant to patient ethical billing practices will be mastered. The evaluation and management (E/M) selection, based on time and Medical Decision Making (MDM), according to the 2021 CMS guidelines, for the initial and follow-up encounters will be introduced. The descriptions and use guidelines for acupuncture, physical therapy, and adjunct CPT codes will be discussed in detail. Navigate coding and billing rules for no-shows and left-without-being-seen. The legal guidelines for establishing usual and customary fees and billing cash to patients in acupuncture practices will be introduced. Essential aspects of legal considerations, such as Anti-Kickback Statute violations for discounts, will be reinforced. Overall, this class aims to equip acupuncturists with the necessary skills to implement medical coding and billing in a legally compliant manner for both cash and insurance practices. Templates of the associated forms and office policies will be reviewed.
