COURSE DESCRIPTION

Module 8 of the Traditional Medicine Clinical Practice Certification (TMCPC) Program emphasizes ETHICS AND PRACTICE MANAGEMENT. It covers legal standards in the practice of Eastern medicine and acupuncture, focusing on healthcare laws, confidentiality, and compliance with regulations.

Learners will be enabled to apply data and information concerning confidentiality and HIPAA, professional conduct, risk management, and quality assurance programs. Ethical and legal practice guidelines will be reinforced. Key topics include the importance of protecting Patient Health Information (PHI) when communicating with patients In-person, via Telephone, Mail, Text, Email, App Messaging, Email Marketing, and Social Media. Definitions and associated laws related to fraud will be discussed in detail. Learners will explore the role of technology and learn how to ensure compliance with ADA standards, including accommodating patients with disabilities in the office and on the website, patients with communication difficulties, interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency, and service animals. Responsibilities regarding reporting abuse or neglect will be reinforced. The module emphasizes that acupuncturists should recognize reportable diseases and how to follow state reporting guidelines. Templates of the associated forms and office policies will be reviewed.

  3. Understand HIPAA Secure Communication, Including In-Person, via Telephone, Mail, Text, Email, App Messaging, Email Marketing, and Social Media
  4. Describe Technology in Healthcare, Including HIPAA Compliant Payment Processing, Electronic Health Records (EHR) Systems, Telehealth Platforms, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Dictation Software, Grammar Software, and other Devices and Apps
  5. Understand ADA Compliance for Accommodation of Patients with Disabilities in the Office and on the Website, Patients with Communication Difficulties, Interpreter Services for Patients with Limited English Proficiency, and Service Animals
  6. Understand Mandatory Reporting to Governmental Agencies, Including Duty to Report Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation, and Reportable Diseases
  7. Demonstrate Knowledge of Fraud and Laws
