COURSE DESCRIPTION

Module 2 covers case management competencies relevant to ethical coding practices. The determination of the evaluation and management (E/M) level, based on time and Medical Decision Making (MDM), according to the 2021 CMS guidelines, for initial and follow-up encounters will be presented. Coding basics, including ICD-10, Modifiers, Diagnosis Pointer, and CPT coding guidelines, most commonly used in acupuncture practice will be introduced. The descriptions and use guidelines for acupuncture, physical therapy, and adjunct modalities CPT codes will be discussed in detail.

Navigate ethical coding and billing for no-shows and left-without-being-seen. The legal and ethical guidelines for establishing usual and customary fees when billing cash to patients will be introduced. Legal considerations for discounts will be reinforced. This class aims to equip acupuncturists with skills to implement ethical coding and billing in a legally compliant manner for both cash and insurance practices. Templates of the associated forms and office policies will be reviewed.
