COURSE DESCRIPTION
Module 1 of the Traditional Medicine Clinical Practice Standards Certificate (TMCPSC) Program will develop the competencies in ETHICS and CASE MANAGEMENT. It covers standards and guidelines for traditional medicine/acupuncture practice in the U.S. It emphasizes the importance of understanding world and United States healthcare standards, including documentation, provider duties, and patient rights. It highlights the most essential competencies for acupuncturists, including documentation guidelines and effective communication. The module discusses the scope of practice, professional ethics, grounds for discipline, and the concept of negligence. It outlines referral guidelines to other healthcare providers. Credentialing package for hospital/integrative practice employment will be discussed in detail.
Care pathways, including medical necessity, will be discussed in detail. Students will master professional correspondence writing (e.g., Letter of Medical Necessity) relevant to patient care. Templates of the associated forms and office policies will be reviewed. Provider duties and patient rights & responsibilities will be addressed. Students will be able to describe the role of the patient in successful treatment outcomes. Overall, it aims to ensure that practitioners understand their responsibilities, legal requirements, and how to provide quality care within their scope of practice.
