PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Traditional Medicine Clinical Practice Standards Certificate (TMCPSC) Program bridges the gap between outstanding clinicians and successful business owners.
Program Purpose:
- To provide knowledge of the clinical and administrative sides of business.
- To ensure compliance with clinical and legal standards of practice necessary for gainful employment and success in private practice.
- To reinforce the best practice documentation guidelines. The need is apparent from the Veterans Administration (VA) community-acupuncturists’ audit results (76% of acupuncturists could not support insurance claims).
The program is designed to meet the following professional training needs:
Prepare new acupuncture program leader (private practice or hospital / integrative medicine clinic) – The acupuncturist equipped with the skills to approach hospital administrators with a complete credentialing and business plan for acupuncture services startup, including:
- Knowledge of accreditation guidelines
- Knowledge of financial market analysis
- Capable of designing a standardized, profitable practice model outline, one-on-one and community style
- Proficient in standardized TCM healthcare records, compliant with conventional medicine, legal and billing requirements
- Knowledge of Standards for Reporting Interventions in Clinical Trials of Acupuncture (STRICTA)
Prepare employees for an established acupuncture program/ practice– The acupuncturist equipped with the skills to work as a part of the team, including:
- Well-trained in the standards of healthcare documentation
- Proficient in the EMR/EHR medical records system
- Trained in medical ethics and communication
- Well-trained in the referral guidelines
- Well-trained in evidence-based acupuncture and TCHM guidelines
- Well-trained in supporting medical necessity to ensure compliance with insurance documentation requirements
- Well-trained in recognition and prevention of acupuncture and TCHM Adverse Events
The TMCPSC program continually evolves and adapts to emerging laws, regulations, and best practices. Graduates of the whole program will have continued access to updates on regulations and documentation.
PROGRAM FORMAT
The Traditional Medicine Clinical Practice Standards Certificate (TMCPCS) program is designed as an intensive curriculum comprising ten modules, totaling 100 hours, and is offered exclusively in an online format. You have ONE year to complete all required classes if you are pursuing the certification track. Modules are suggested to be taken in sequence. However, they may be taken as separate CEU/PDA classes. Licensed acupuncturists or acupuncture college students can enroll in any TMCPC continuing education class without committing to the entire program. Each module consists of eight didactic in-class hours and two hours of homework.
PROGRAM COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
- Track: Participants pursuing select CEU classes must complete both the online exam and class evaluation to receive CEU/PDA.
- Track: Participants pursuing the TMCPC certification must complete all classes within the program, pass the online examinations, and submit the additional assignments below:
- Write the Re-evaluation Follow-up E/M + Acupuncture Note accompanied by a Superbill reflecting the usual and customary fees of the location where you intend to practice.
- Complete the audit of the pear’s Re-evaluation Follow-up E/M + Acupuncture Note accompanied by a Superbill.
- Write the Letter of Medical Necessity for the audited SOAP note
- Write the Initial TCHM E/M Note, including planned labs
- Write the Follow-Up Re-Evaluation TCHM E/M note containing Adverse Event, accompanied by EA investigation and AE Report.
- Identify your state law regarding the practice of TCHM and telehealth
- Identify your state law and regulation regarding reportable diseases
- Identify your state law and regulation regarding discounts
